Occupational Therapist qualified in 1996. Since then I have worked in the NHS. I am now the Allied Health Professional Lead for NHS Hounslow and Richmond Community Healthcare Trust.
Following my completion of my degree I studied at Laban in contemporary dance and have performed at the Royal Opera House and in the film, Pride and Prejudice.
Understanding movement from a patient level and as a form of expression
Health professions and creative professions can co-exist on a practical level. There is the opportunity for portfolio careers in the NHS. On a spiritual, emotional and physical level they are intertwined on so many levels. I found links the whole way along; like Laban notation and Bobath techniques. Understanding movement from a patient level and as a form of expression. How pathology (mental and physical) affected movement. How dance made me feel and how that might be for others who can or can’t move. Both professions fed into each other and I still have an interest in movement direction as a possible next career because of these connections made.
